Three weeks of ten minutes beats three days of panic.
Cramming works, briefly. It gets material into your head for roughly as long as the exam lasts and then lets go of it — which is a poor deal if the subject continues next term, and a terrible one if the exam is cumulative.
The same total hours, spread out, produce memory that survives the exam. The catch has always been that spreading it out requires making the cards early, and making cards early is exactly what nobody does. That is the step Toly removes.

Most courses hand you the deck already — a glossary at the back of the chapter, a list of learning objectives, a slide of key terms. Scan it, tap the terms that matter for your exam, and Toly writes a definition for each one.
Then correct anything your course defines differently. An exam rewards your lecturer's definition, not the general one, and the two-second edit is what makes the card yours.

When should I start making flashcards for an exam?
The week you first meet the material, not the week before the exam. Spaced repetition needs time between reviews to work — three weeks of daily ten-minute sessions beats three days of panic, using less total time.
Can I still cram with Toly?
You can review as much as you like in a sitting, but Toly is not built to make cramming efficient. Its scheduler assumes you want the material after the exam as well as during it.
How do I turn a syllabus or glossary into cards?
Photograph it. Tap Scan below the create-card input, take a picture of the term list, and tap the terms you want. The AI writes a definition for each one, and you edit anything it got wrong for your course.
Should I make one deck per subject?
Usually yes — one deck per subject or per module keeps reviews legible. The Free plan allows up to 3 decks; PRO removes the limit if you are running several courses at once.
What if the AI writes a definition my course disagrees with?
Edit it. Course-specific definitions matter more than general ones in an exam, so treat the generated back as a first draft and correct it to match your lecturer or textbook.
Does Toly help with essay questions?
Only indirectly. Flashcards are for discrete, checkable facts — definitions, dates, names, formulas. They give you the raw material an essay needs; they do not practise the argument.
